Races

HALF MARATHON:
Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008

The Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon begins at 8 a.m. in downtown Parkersburg. The rolling course will take you out of the city and into the scenic surroundings of West Virginia before looping back into the commercial area.

You will finish the race to the cheers of thousands of spectators lined up on Market Street prior to the Parkersburg Homecoming Festival Parade. Minimum age to participate in the Half Marathon is 15. See age categories for a complete listing of groups. Prize money for NCAA eligible runners is donated to the Newspapers in Education Fund.

TWO-MILE RACE:

Saturday, Aug. 16
Starting line is at Third and Juliana streets at the Towne Square Parking Garage and the finish line is at Sixth and Market streets. Race begins at 8:05 a.m. Awards will be presented at 10:30 a.m. at the Bicentennial Park area. Team trophies will also be awarded.


JUNIOR RACES:
Sunday, Aug. 17
Based on age, the event will have age- and gender-based races for children ages 6-11.
To ensure the safety of the children, there will be races for each age and gender. All competitors in both races get a medal. All participants in both races get a T-shirt. See registration details below.


TINY TOT TROT:

Sunday, Aug. 17
The race is for children 5 years old and under and will be held at the Parkersburg High School Stadium at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19. The Parkersburg News and Sentinel Tiny Tot Trot is a short-distance race designed especially for children age 5 and under. (To ensure the safety of the children, there will be races for each age and gender. All competitors in both races get a medal. All participants get a T-shirt.) These races will follow the Junior Races, starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Parkersburg High School’s stadium. Runners in kids’ races can register on race day starting at 11 a.m. and ending just prior to the races. You can also preregister by mail, online or at the Runners Expo on Aug. 15.

You can enter right now by using our online registration form hosted by Active.com. Just click on the logo and sign up. You can pick up your packet at the Runner's Expo on Aug. 15, or until 7 a.m. on race day.

Pick up an entry form at one of dozens of locations in Parkersburg/Marietta area, plus at sporting good stores throughout the region.

Register at the Runner's Expo on Aug. 15. Many runners register the night before the race at the Runner's Expo. Registration is open from 2 until 9 p.m. at the Parkersburg Municipal Building.
